PRESS RELEASE – “YOU AND I ARE WE” AT THE “EXIT” MUSIC FESTIVAL

6. July 2010.

The Government of the Autonomous Province (AP) of Vojvodina enabled the participants in the “You and I are We” project to visit the “Exit” music festival. In addition to providing  tickets for the first day of the festival for all participants in and coordinators of the said project, the Government of Vojvodina also provided a stay in Novi Sad for them. This is continuation of a good cooperation of the Government of Vojvodina and the Coordination Body of the Government of the Republic of Serbia for the Municipalities of Presevo, Bujanovac and Medvedja, which financially supported the “You and I are We” project.

Following a several months’ long acting workshop, the “You and I are We” project turned out into a multiethnic play in which Albanian, Serbian and Roma secondary school students from Bujanovac and Presevo speak of growing up in South Serbia in their own languages, as well as in English. The students also wrote the text of the play.  Upon its premiere in Bujanovac, the play was performed in Belgrade, in six Vojvodina’s municipalities and at the “Students’ Vukov sabor” in Trsic.

The “You and I are We” project has grown into a youth center, whose members, besides the play of secondary school students from Bujanovac and Presevo, are preparing a similar multiethnic project in Kikinda.  The young from Kikinda are going to join their friends from Bujanovac and Presevo at the opening of “Exit”. Tickets for the opening of  the music festival were provided for the young from Kikinda  by the Government of Vojvodina.
