PRESS RELEASE – APARTMENTS FOR INTERNALLY DISPLACED AND SOCIALLY THREATENED FAMILIES IN MEDVEDJA

On Thursday, July 8, 2010, at 1.20 pm, Milan Markovic, Minister of Public Administration and Local Self – Government and President of the Coordination Body for the Municipalities of Presevo, Bujanovac and Medvedja, Vincent Degert, Head of the Delegation of the European Union to the Republic of Serbia, Rasim Ljajic,  Minister of Labor and Social Policy, and Slobodan Draskovic, President of the Municipality of Medvedja, are going to hand over the keys of  eight apartments to displaced  and socially threatened families.

Also present at the official handover of the keys will be Vladimir Cucic, the Serbian Commissioner for Refugees, and Elmar Bojadzic, ASB Regional Director for South East Europe.   
Milan Markovic, President of the Coordination Body, is going to deliver computers to two families with children with special needs, as well as one computer to the Day Care Center for Elderly People.
 
As part of the German ASB non-governmental organization’s program, the European Union funded the construction of the apartments in Medvedja with 140,000 EUR.  
The Ministry of Public Administration and Local Self- Government provided 2 million dinars for connecting the apartment building and the Day Care Center for Elderly People to power – supply, while the Coordination Body for the Municipalities of Presevo, Bujanovac and Medvedja provided 1.2 million dinars for furnishing Day Care Center for Elderly People.

13.30–14.00 Handover of keys and contracts to the beneficiary families and official opening of the apartment building;

15.00 Visit to the Day Care Center for Elderly People in Medvedja, to which Milan Markovic, President of the Coordination Body, is going to donate a computer.
