PERFORMANCES AND WORKSHOPS TO REDUCE VIOLENCE

21. October 2014.

The Centre for Development of Non-Formal Education, with the support of the European Union and the UN Population Fund, presented the websitewww.nasiljenemaopravdanja.org, which was created because of the need to reduce violence in the territory of Serbia, especially in multi-ethnic regions and in those with different cultures.

The project is being implemented in five cities, which include Sombor, Bor, Prokuplje, Novi Pazar and Bujanovac. Apart from launching the site, where victims of violence talk about their personal experiences, the project includes the performance “Violence Has No Justification”, which was directed by Zijah Sokolovic, as well as a workshop on the aforementioned topic.

The performance is intended for children attending senior grades of primary school. It lasts as long as one lesson and is performed in all five cities. As it was said at a meeting in the Youth Center in Belgrade, the performance was referred to as the best project in the EU in the field of prevention of crime and domestic violence, whereas its author and director Zijah Sokolovic became the ambassador of the UN Development Program for Non-Violence and Tolerance.

The text of the play was written in cooperation with psychologists and social workers, and it contains 120 examples of violence. Video materials on the subject of violence were recorded during the workshops, which may be found on www.nasiljenemaopravdanja.org.

The project is aimed at having 10,000 visitors by its end or by May 2015, as well as at focusing on the issue of violence, so that aggressive behavior could be decreased as much as possible.
