PENSIONS BY DELIVERY OR AUTHORIZATION

27. March 2020.

The Prime Minister of the Republic of Serbia, Ana Brnabic, in consultation with the President of the Republic of Serbia, has decided that pensions should be paid to citizens through special powers or through delivery.

As of Tuesday, March 24th, citizens who have not previously authorized anyone to withdraw their pensions from their accounts can do so with a special authorization for a person who, on their behalf, would withdraw a pre-set amount of pension from their account provided the authorized person has their own ID card, as well as the pensioner’s one.

Authorization must be done without any contacts - maintain a safe two-meter distance at all times and use a hand sanitizer upon delivery of the pension.

An example of the authorization was issued by the National Bank of Serbia, but it can also be drawn up in a free form, with mandatory indication of the personal data of the pensioner and the authorized person, the current account number, the name of the bank and the amount to be paid (in numbers and letters).

The authorization must be signed in order for it to be accepted.

All pensioners who do not authorize another person to withdraw their pension from their account should call the contact telephone number of the bank in which they have a current account and state the address and the amount they wish to be provided with, while the Post Office of Serbia will deliver them their pensions in accordance with urgency procedure.

Banks will also contact these users independently through a contact center or text message, so that retirees could know as early as possible how the payment would be effected.

The National Bank of Serbia has issued detailed instructions for banks' actions regarding the payment of pensions in the current situation.

The full cost of the delivery will be borne by the Republic of Serbia, so that the pensioners will not incur additional expenses due to the new situation caused by the COVID-19 virus.

Members of the Army of Serbia and the Ministry of Interior will be available to the Post Office of Serbia during the distribution of pensions, according to a statement issued by the Government of the Republic of Serbia.
