ONLINE WORKSHOP ON CHILDREN'S DIGITAL SAFETY INTENDED FOR PARENTS

17. September 2020.

In the series of workshops organized by the EU Info Corner in Nis on the topic of the development of socially, mentally and physically healthy children, an ONLINE workshop for parents of school-age children will be held on September 17 at 6 pm, entitled "Connect Online, Do Not Disconnect from Reality”.

Sometimes it seems that children's lives "revolve" around their phones and modern technology, which became even more pronounced during the pandemic, when social activities were reduced, and everyone spent more time at home. From applications and video games, through the Internet and social media, to television, technology is increasingly becoming an essential part of our lives. If a child uses the Internet without adult supervision, he or she may be exposed to programs with harmful content that encourage inappropriate behavior, promote violent or sexually explicit content.

The aim of the above-mentioned workshop is to help parents to develop useful skills, to get acquainted with the advantages and risks of the Internet, through concrete advice, conversation and examples from practice, for the purpose of protecting their children from potential dangers in the digital environment.

On that occasion, parents will be able to learn more about the following important topics:

– What are the risks that children face online and the possibilities of risk reduction

– The main role of parents in the development of the correct attitude of children towards virtual reality, perception of the network and the positioning of the child in the private/ public sphere, as well as the development of responsible behavior

– Parenting styles - how to protect a child, not ruin his privacy and keep up with trends

– Dealing with cyber-bullying, child support

The ONLINE workshop will be run by Branislava Krasic and Ana Mitrovic, cognitive-behavioral psychotherapists. The event is intended for parents of school-age children (primary and secondary school).

Participation in the workshop is free for interested parents. The number of places is limited, so it is necessary to confirm your participation by filling in the application form on https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSdNnhxkWwBzpW2PnVrqAG_at62m4-1GYy39KWStokCFHdH1lA/closedform, by September 17 at 10 am or until capacity is full.

The event takes place online on the Zoom platform, and all signed-up participants will receive an e-mail link with information for access and monitoring on the day of the workshop.

Recognizing some of the unique fears and problems facing modern families, such as insufficient information and knowledge on digital and physical security, drug use, sexuality and lack of assertive communication, experts will work on these topics in a series of workshops organized by the EU Info Corner through group work with workshop participants.
