The Agreement on Establishing the Multiethnic Government in Bujanovac is going to become effective at the first next session of the Municipal Assembly, whereby both the Albanians and Serbs shall be in power, said Milan Markovic, President of the Coordination Body of the Government of the Republic of Serbia for the Municipalities of Presevo, Bujanovac and Medvedja.

“The agreement has a symbolic effect, since the process in South Serbia, which used to develop utterly negatively, has now begun to develop positively. The government and the opposition should be divided along the lines of ideas they put forward, and not along the lines of their ethnic backgrounds”, Minister Markovic said.

According to him, the signed agreement “greatly encourages the regional stability and it also conveys a good message both to the residents of Bujanovac and to those who might wish to invest in the region.”

“Naturally, the agreement isn’t final in character. It is a transitional agreement, while final relations will be specified after the next elections.  I, however, hope that never again will members of one ethnic community exercise all the power in a multiethnic environment  such as Bujanovac”, said Minister Markovic, adding that if  such a thing occurred, it would pass on a bad message to the community.
