MR. STANKOVIC VISITED FLOOD AFFECTED AREAS IN THE MUNICIPALITY OF MEDVEDJA

Меdvedja – "The situation in the municipality of Medvedja is very bad," said Zoran Stankovic, the President of the Coordination Body for the Municipalities of Presevo, Bujanovac and Medvedja, after visiting the terrain in Sijarinska and Ravna Spas.

Heavy rains had caused a real collapse in most local communities. The power outages had disrupted the operation of some mobile operators. Communication in the municipality is extremely difficult.

Responsible persons from the electricity distribution company’s branch office in Medvedja say that their teams are constantly in the field, that they have received help from the neighboring municipalities and that they are doing everything within their power to normalize the current situation.

“We visited the locations in the field with representatives of the local self-government. The damage had been, first and foremost, caused to the infrastructure facilities. Two bridges had been completely swept away, the villages had been cut off, and another 7 to 8 bridges had been damaged," Mr. Stanković said.

Medvedja declared a state of emergency on January 12 due to heavy rainfall and floods, which led to power outages in most parts of the municipality, damage to local road infrastructure and faulty drinking water in Sijarinska Spa due to the flooding of wells.

“We will send letters to the Government of the Republic of Serbia, the Ministries and the Electric Power Industry of Serbia to help us repair the damage in the field and send the team as soon as possible to help the Electric Power Industry of Serbia’s branch in Medvedja ", said Nebojsa Arsic, the President of the Municipality of Medvedja.
