MR. STANKOVIC: THE NAME OF POLICE OFFICER’S KILLER KNOWN

28. October 2013.

Belgrade- Zoran Stankovic, President of the Coordination Body for the Municipalities of Presevo, Bujanovac and Medvedja, said that he expected that the man who had killed Goran Djordjevic, a police officer, would be arrested, as well as that his name was known and that he was in Kosovo and Metohija.

“The name of the driver who killed a police officer Goran Djordjevic near Veliki Trnovac is known and we are now just waiting for the arrest of the man who is known to have crossed into the territory of Kosovo and Metohija, "said Mr. Stankovic.

Mr. Stankovic, who was a visitor on the RTS 1 Channel, said that the co-driver of the passenger car, which had hit police officer Djordjevic, was arrested, as well as that the car was found. Speaking about the fact that the police don’t enter Veliki Trnovac, which experts indicate as an important place for the distribution of drugs, Mr. Stankovic said that a police checkpoint had been located in the center of Veliki Trnovac for several years and that members of the gendarmerie and other security structures passed through it every day.  He added that the police and the relevant state security bodies monitored what was going on in the area and said "there is no part of the territory that they can’t visit and where they can’t intervene ".   Mr. Stankovic said that not all residents of Veliki Trnovac were drug resellers and the police had information about ”who are the people acting on the other side of the law ".

"However, they are very well organized and very well equipped and we have to do the same with our police and security structures, because it sometimes it turns out that they are much better organized and equipped than we are", said Mr. Stankovic.

He pointed out that members of security forces arrested those men, but that the positive results weren’t present in the public. Asked if the authorities would allow representatives of the government of Kosovo and Metohija to visit the municipalities in southern Serbia, the Coordination Body’s President said that the issue was under the jurisdiction of the Minister without portfolio Aleksandar Vulin and his Office for Kosovo and Metohija.

“They are the ones who, together with other state bodies, assess whether someone’s visits could lead to some unwanted  activities or even the activities that are incompatible with our Constitution, the laws and the rights of national minorities", Mr. Stankovic said, confirming that those visits weren’t yet approved.

As for the announced visit of the Minister of Health Slavica Djukic Dejanovic to the municipalities in southern Serbia, he said that her visit was the beginning of the implementation of the government's seven-point report by which the topics of discussion with representatives of the Albanian parties were set.  He said that the topics of discussion would include the beginning of the operation of the maternity ward in Presevo, the formation of the institutions dealing with people with special needs and specialization of the medical staff, since the Minister would firstly speak to the directors of health centers that operate in the area of the three municipalities and with the director of the medical center in Vranje.

Speaking of the dissatisfaction of representatives of some Serbs from southern Serbia because of, as they assessed, lenient attitude of the state towards the Albanians, Mr. Stankovic said that the state assumed obligations to the international community and to the Albanian national minority and that those agreements must be implemented.
