MR. STANKOVIC IN MEDVEDJA

5. December 2012.

Source: Jugpress / Mevedja – The President of the Coordination Body of the Government of the Republic of Serbia for the Municipalities of Presevo, Bujanovac and Medvedja, Zoran Stankovic, met yesterday with representatives of Medvedja’s "position" and "opposition".

He said after the meetings that representatives of the opposition and non-parliamentary parties had made some remarks about the distribution of funds intended for the boosting of small and medium-sized enterprises.

"There were certain objections made by  the owners of small and medium-sized enterprises, who weren’t satisfied with the division of funds, given that only three companies  from Medvedja had received the amount of 8 million dinars. If any omissions are detected, the responsible persons will be sanctioned. 60 million dinars have been provided for encouraging small and medium-sized companies next year.  Border-crossings that exist in the territory of Medvedja can’t only serve for the crossing of people, but customs procedures will be performed on them, too, so that lorries coming from Medvedja won’t have to go through Konculj or Merdare, once this border-crossing is enabled for the operation. 5.5 million dinars were allocated for the needs of the Faculties of Law and Economics, so that the studying  conditions could be improved. We will also talk about the renovation of the faculties’ building. Complaints about the most recently held elections were made. The competent authorities should, as soon as possible, act on the petitions filed by the people from this area.

According to Mr. Stankovic, a bazaar of Medvedja businessmen’s offers should be soon organized, so that domestic and foreign investors could familiarize themselves with the potential of the area. He pointed out that Medvedja’s problems were similar in all "marginal" places in Serbia, and that they ranged from migration to insufficient investments. The priority of the government should be investing in these and similar regions, Mr. Stakovic said.
