MR. STANKOVIC: ALBANIA’S FINACIAL ASSISTANCE DOESN’T CAUSE ANY PROBLEMS TO SERBIA

21. January 2014.

Bujanovac – Zoran Stankovic, President of the Coordination Body of the Government of the Republic of Serbia for the Municipalities of Presevo, Bujanovac and Medvedja, said that the fact that Albania and Kosovo and Metohija wished to financially assist the Presevo area didn’t cause any problems to Serbia, as well as that, according to him, the purpose of the said assistance shouldn’t be the achievement of a political impact.

“Serbia's interest is to cooperate with Albania and, why not, have economic projects with it, too”, he said.

“I would be very pleased if most of the funds were awarded to some economic facility, an investment that would help people in these areas to work and meet their needs. We aren’t against those who wish to help in the development of this area, of course, in the spirit of regional cooperation and on the basis of international conventions ", said Mr. Staknovic.

Mr. Stankovic said that the disagreement with the Albanians had been caused by the interpretation of the new network of courts, even though the Albanian political representatives themselves, after meeting with the Serbian Minister of Health, praised the initiative for solving the problems.

“The policy of blackmail isn’t good for anyone.  If we had reached clear agreements in the past, we could have solved many of the problems of the citizens of Presevo, Bujanovac and Medvedja", said Mr. Stankovic.

This governmental body, which deals with the problems of the Albanians, believes that the internal dialogue should continue.

The Government of the Republic of Serbia and the Albanians initiated discussions on determining the Albanians’ problems. However, the initiative didn’t last long, because the Albanians had discontinued the talks, as they were unsatisfied with the offers received from the Government.
