MR. HASANI: PDD WILL PARTICIPATE IN THE ELECTIONS FOR THE ALBANIAN NATIONAL COUNCIL

28. September 2018.

Presevo – The Party for Democratic Action (PDD), which is led by Riza Halimi, decided to participate in the elections for the Albanian National Council scheduled for November 4.

Mr. Hasani said that the decision had been made because the other parties had decided to participate in the elections.

Mr. Hasani, who is the only Albanian MP in the Serbian Parliament, is of the view that it would be better to boycott the elections for the Albanian National Council. He said that among the most important reasons for the boycott is the fact that the number of members of the Albanian National Council, as well as its budget, were determined as if there were only 5,800 Albanians in Serbia, who were listed in the most recent census.

"The Albanian National Council will have only 15 members in its second term, instead of 29, which it had after the first elections, while the number of its members was reduced because the Albanians boycotted the 2011 census, when only 5,800 Albanians were listed in whole Serbia," Mr. Hasani said.

However the PDD will participate in the elections for the Albanian National Council.

So far, the Alternative for Change, led by Sciprim Arifi, the Mayor of Presevo, is the only party that decided to participate in the elections for the Albanian National Council, while the Democratic Party of Albanians (DPA), led by Ragmi Mustafa, said that it would boycott the elections.
