Bujanovac – Mladen Sarcevic, the Minister of Education, Science and Technological Development, met in Bujanovac with Besa Shahini, the Minister of Education, Sports and Youth of the Republic of Albania. The major topic of discussion was the improvement of the Albanian language instruction in elementary and secondary schools, while both the Ministers announced a closer cooperation on the issue in the future, primarily the cooperation regarding the provision of suitable textbooks.

Besa Shahini, the Albanian Minister, said that the Ministry of Education from Tirana would provide all the necessary support, including the needed experts for the preparation of textbooks, so that, in cooperation with the Serbian Ministry of Education, top quality textbooks for Albanian elementary and secondary school students in Bujanovac, Presevo and Medvedja could be provided.

The Minister stated that it was important to develop basic skills through education, which would be useful not only in further education, but also in life in general.

“We want our youth to have good basic knowledge, as well as the knowledge of science and digital competences, in both native and other languages," Besa Shahini said.

Following the meeting and talks with the Albanian Minister of Education at the Subotica Faculty of Economics’ Department in Bujanovac, Mladen Sarcevic, the Minister of Education, said that "two teams, with the experience from both countries, will soon be working on the adequate translation and provision of textbooks in the Albanian language”.

Minister Sarcevic pointed out that also discussed at the meeting was how to improve the conditions for learning of the Serbian minority in Albania.  

"In connection with that, I will visit Tirana and Skadar, where the majority of citizens of the Serbian nationality live. As far as I am aware, a law is in preparation in Albania that will allow them to declare in which language they want to take the classes, "the Minister said.

Upon the meeting, the Ministers of Education of the two countries visited the „Desanka Maksimovic“ elementary school  in the village of Biljaca.  

Minister Sarcevic announced that the school would be reconstructed and that 100 million dinars would be invested in those works.

The first visit of the Minister of Education of Albania to Bujanovac was also attended by Ilir Bocka, the Ambassador of that country to Serbia, Zoran Stankovic, the President of the Coordination Body for the Municipalities of Presevo, Bujanovac and Medvedja, Shaip Kamberi, the Mayor of Bujanovac and Fatmir Hasani, an MP in the Parliament of the Republic of Serbia.
