MINISTER VULIN: THERE ARE CURRENTLY FROM 1,000 TO 1,500 MIGRANTS IN SERBIA

8. February 2016.

Belgrade – “There are currently in Serbia no more than 1,000 to 1,500 people moving from Presevo to Sid, "said Aleksandar Vulin, Minister of Labor, Employment, Veteran and Social Affairs.

“A slight improvement in weather conditions didn’t cause a considerable increase in the number of migrants. For the time being, the numbers are still significantly lower than the average, "said Minister Vulin, adding that Serbia had no problem with a large number of migrants and that it was ready for a far greater number of them.

He also said that the fighting in Syria intensified and that it usually caused movement of people and the growing number of migrants, as well as that about 30,000 people were trapped on the border between Syria and Turkey.

“If Turkey lets these people pass, they will sooner or later come to our country’s border, too", said Minister Vulin.

Minister Vulin, who heads the working group for resolving the migration crisis, reiterated that Serbia would be no parking lot for migrants or a zone in which those who can’t go any farther would gather.

“Serbia pursues its policy of being humane and organized to the maximum, but it shall also abide by the decisions of the countries along the route, so that it shall behave in accordance with how they do,” said Minister Vulin.
