MILORAD VELJOVIC: “THE STATE NEEDS THE GENDARMERIE”

29. July 2013.

Bujanovac/Presevo – As part of his visit to the ground security zone, Police Director Milorad VeljoviC visited South Serbia, so that he could get acquainted with the manner of    operation and the quality of duties performed by members of the Gendarmerie. "The gendarmerie is a unit required by the state and right here in the security zone, it has the duty to help the people and to protect them," said Police Director Veljovic, adding that the politics mustn’t get mixed in the Gendarmerie’s operation.

"If we let that happen, then our work won’t be done professionally. The police are the best ambassador of state to its citizens, which is why the situation here in South Serbia is stable and that’s why we don’t expect any problems, "said Mr. Veljovic.

Serbian Police Director Milorad Veljović began his two-day stay in the ground security zone with a tour of the base of the Gendarmerie in the village of Ristovac near Vranje, and then he visited the integrated control border-crossing of Konculj near Bujanovac, as well as the village of Miratovac near Presevo. He ended up his visit by doing a tour of the Kozjak base, which is the the Gendarmerie’s southernmost security checkpoint in Serbia.
