MEDVEDJA: GERMANY BUILT HOUSES FOR REFUGEES

Medvedja – President of the Municipality of Medvedja, Slobodan Draskovic, thanked the Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany, Heinz Wilhelm, for the investment Germany made in 2002, which was used for the construction of four residential buildings with four apartments each. These buildings are now used for housing refugees, and their construction was carried out through the ASB NGO and it amounted to 210,000 German marks or 13,700, 000.00 dinars.

On the occasion of a recent visit of the German Ambassador to the municipality of Medvedja, the President of the Municipality acquainted the high-ranking guest with the potentials of the municipality, stressing in particular the importance of Sijarinska Spa and its natural resources. He also talked about the “Lece” mine and the research work in Tulare, which is done by the Canadian company "Dunav Minerals”.    

The German Ambassador and Sonja Bohner, First Secretary for Political Affairs at the German Embassy, had a working lunch with the president of the municipality of Medvedja and his associates at the "Geyser" Hotel in Sijarinska Spa.

The talks were held on the subject of political stability in the municipality and investment potentials of the municipality of Medvedja. President Draskovic familiarized the Ambassador with the political situation in the municipality, which is stable, and with the fact that there had never been any developments caused by multi-ethnic issues, not even during the war. He pointed out that the number of employed members of the Albanian national minority corresponded to the number based on a census, which was performed in 2002, since part of the Albanian population didn’t respond to it during the last census.  

One of the most recent investments in the municipality of Medvedja is the “Jablanica Eco” factory for the production of pellets. The Government of the Republic of Slovenia made a donation in the amount of 290,000.00 euros for the purchase of the equipment for the factory. The EU “Progress” donated 90,000 euros for the renovation of the existing production hall. The municipality of Medvedja participated in the investment with 540, 000 euros.

Following the working lunch, the German Ambassador, accompanied by the President of the Municipality of Medvedja and his associates, made a tour of Medvedja.
