MEDICINE SMUGGLING PREVENTED IN PRESEVO

2. July 2015.

Presevo - According to the Customs Administration, customs officers at the Presevo border crossing prevented an attempt to smuggle large quantities of medicines.

Z.N. from Prokuplje tried to smuggle the medicines to Nis. He told the police that he distributed drinks.

Z. N. was stopped at a local road, more precisely near the Skoplje-Belgrade highway ramp.

“A detailed inspection of 30 boxes packed in the back part of the pickup with Nis license plates resulted in the medicines with foreign excise stamps and not in drinks.  The medicines were without any supporting documentation on the payment of import duties and other dues. Among the detected medicines were  12, 000 “Sintrom 4”  medicaments , which are used in therapy against blood clotting and for preventing the onset of the thrombus. The said medicine isn’t registered in Serbia and the trading in it isn’t allowed. It can be be purchased only on the black market”, the Customs Administration said.

Z. N. stated that he had taken the drugs over from an unknown person in Presevo and confirmed that he was taking them to Nis for further sale.

Since the value of the smuggled goods exceeds the third of the vehicle’s value, everything will  be retained until completion of misdemeanor proceedings before the competent court, it was said in a statement.
