31. March 2009.

The first meeting of the reconstructed Coordination Body for the Municipalities of Presevo, Bujanovac and Medvedja should be held as early as sometime this week, following the last Friday’s signing of an agreement on the reconstruction of the body, which representatives of the Albanian political parties from South Serbia rejoined after two years.
„I’m optimistic about further work of the Coordination Body. I expect all of us will make an effort to ensure economic development, as well as implementation of the programs that have existed since 2001, when the body was established. We shall also continue to implement the infrastructure projects. I hope that the Coordination Body will be more efficient and that it will have a different attitude towards us. That means our joint participation in the body’s work, as well as our joint responsibility for the body’s work, “said for „Politika“ Saip Kamberi, the mayor of Bujanovac.
He said that one of the most important innovations was that the agreement envisaged the adoption of decisions in the Coordination Body’s Presidency by consensus, „which wasn’t the case  previously, since not only we didn’t participate in the adoption of decisions, but we also weren’t informed about  a great deal of issues.“

Mr. Kamberi said that he would be the first of the three mayors that would do the tasks of Deputy President of the Coordination Body. Under the agreement, which was signed in Belgrade by Milan Markovic, Minister of Public Administration and Local Self-Government, Riza Halimi, a member of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia and Hans Ola Urstad, Head of the OSCE Mission to Serbia, mayors of the municipalities of Bujanovac and Presevo will rotate at this position each year.
Sima Gazikaovic, Vice President of the Coordination Body, is also optimistic about further work of the body, which practically hadn’t operated even before the Albanian representatives left it due to the body’s disregard of their demands.
„This is the third agreement in which I’ve participated and I hope it will be a lucky one. I expect that all the problems, which are numerous in this region, will be solved jointly. I also hope that responsibility for our work will be born jointly. We must try to kick-start the economy and regain the trust of citizens, who are of various ethnic backgrounds, as well as their trust in the Republic of Serbia, “Mr. Gazikalovic says.

However, he added that multi-ethnicity must be regained „in the field, too, “which means that representatives of the Serbs must participate in the local self-governments in South Serbia, which isn’t the case now.

Saip Kamberi hopes that the governing coalitions in the three municipalities will be „enlarged“by the Serbian parties as well. „I hope that the government here will be multiethnic and that the Albanians will be fully integrated in the governmental bodies.“
