KIRBY PROMISED CONTINUED AID TO SOUTH SERBIA

Source: Večernje Novosti – Serbia / Vranje – The U.S. Ambassador to Serbia, Michael Kirby, visited for the first time the city under Przar yesterday.  During the meeting, he firstly met with Vranje’s Mayor Zoran Antic and his associates. The topics mostly discussed during the meeting included the functioning of the local government, as well as the cooperation between Vranje and the municipalities of Bujanovac and Presevo, in the light of the current political and economic situation in South Serbia.

Mayor Antic informed the guest about the most important priorities of Vranje, which include job creation, agricultural development and support provided to young people who can contribute to the rapid development of the city. Ambassador Michael Kirby said that the U.S. Embassy in Serbia would continue to provide full support to the region, noting that over the past six years, over 420,000 euros were invested in the implementation of various projects. 

The American diplomat and Vranje Mayor, thereupon, visited the American Corner in the "Bora Stankovic" library, where Ambassador Kirby talked with young members of the library about American history, art, films and music. Towards the end of the visit, the guests, who were accompanied by their hosts, toured the building of the former American home, which is the endowment of the benefactors John Frotingam and his spouse Jelena Lozanić.
