KID FROM BUJANOVAC IN “ESTUDIANTES”

18. December 2014.

Bujanovac – A basketball club “Play 017” from Bujanovac and a boy named Bernard Morina are sports miracles not only of South Serbia.

Bernard Morina, a 13-year-old Roma boy from Bujanovac, is the most successful individual of the club, while he also signed a pre-contract with the Spanish club “Estudiantes”.

“Play 017”, the club where Serbian, Albanian and Roma primary school children play, won in the middle of Belgrade against the peers of the Red Star and Partisan.

During both the matches in Belgrade, Beni, as the kids call their star Bernard Morina, scored more than half of the points, while he really gave his autographs to his peers after the match.

Of around 170 students of the basketball school, six selections in the mini basketball leagues of Pcinj district defeat their opponents with twice more given than received scores.

All expenses for the Play 017 Club and the School of Basketball are financed by the parents,  because the local self-government in Bujanovac had turned a deaf ear to their dazzling results.

Bernard Morina wasn’t recognized by scouts for the Serbian clubs, but scouts for the Spanish clubs had rushed from Spain to Bujanovac.  After three days of being tested in playing basketball in Madrid, Morina and his parents signed in Madrid a pre-contract with the club.

After the New Year holidays, Play 017 travels to Bremerhaven in Germany, in order to take part in a three-day tournament of eight basketball clubs, which Europe is hopeful about, again at the expense of the children’s parents.

Morina will by then, probably, get a call and airplane tickets from Madrid, so that he, his father Rahman, mother Dzemilje and brother Fadil, could move to the capital of Spain.
