DZAHID RAMADANI, FORMER DIRECTOR OF RTV BUJANOVAC, RECEIVED AN MA DEGREE FROM TEACHERS’ FACULTY IN VRANJE

Vranje, Bujanovac – Its is very rare for Albanians from South Serbia to obtain academic degrees from the institutions of higher learning. This statement was recently denied by Dzahid Ramadani, the former director of the local RTV Bujanovac, who obtained an MA degree from the Teachers’ Faculty in Vranje. The topic of his paper was „The Media in Education“. Mr. Ramadani has, thus, become one of few Albanians from South Serbia who obtained an MA degree from one of the Nis Univeristy’s  faculties.

Mr. Ramadani defended his MA paper before a board that included Stana Smiljkovic, PhD, the Dean of the Teachers’ Faculty, as well as the faculty’s professors Radivoje Kulic, PhD, Marjan Blazic, PhD, and Milan Tasic, PhD.

„A shortcoming of all the media, particularly of the local media, is that they deal with the education- related topics very little or they don’t deal with them at all. We deal with schools only when a minister or politician comes to visit us, as well as when there are scandals. Innovative processes in education aren’t covered at all. The same goes for the efforts teachers put into improving the quality of  education, and such examples may be found in poor South Serbia, too,“ said Dzahid Ramadani, who has over a thirty years’ long experience in following up the education-related activities, since he used to be a teacher.

In the opinion of Stana Smiljkovic, PhD, the Dean of the Teachers’ Faculty in Vranje, the relation  between the media and educational institutions is a field that was insufficiently dealt with, and that is why Mr. Ramadani’s paper is the beginning of the work on the subject, which should provoke others to deal with the topic, too.

Most Albanians usually receive their education at the faculties in Pristina, Skoplje, Tetovo and Tirana, whereas this is the first time that an Albanian gets an MA degree from the faculty that is within the University of Nis.

Until recently, Dzahid Ramadani was the Director and Editor-in-Chief of RTV Bujanovac. He also deserves credit for the opening of editorial offices in Albanian and Romany, which was  supported by the local self-government and international organizations, thanks  to which a multiethnic balance in the information field was established.
