INVESTORS NEED GOOD ROADS AND RAILWAYS

24. March 2015.

Vranje - Michael Kirby, the US Ambassador to Serbia, said in Vranje that the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) would continue to finance South Serbia.

Ambassador Kirby said that that part of Serbia was lagging behind in development and pointed out that good roads and railways were one of the basic conditions for attracting investors.

Ambassador Kirby said at the opening of a safe house in Vranje, the construction of which was, through the US Embassy in Serbia, financed by the European Command of the US Army with 213. 000 dollars, that the intention was to bring both domestic and foreign investors to South  Serbia, who would create jobs.

“We helped in drafting the Law on the Construction Industry, we helped with reform of the cadastre, since there were problems with what belonged to whom, now the issuing of building permits is facilitated, we worked on the Labor Law too, under which it had previously been difficult to hire someone who was 50 or more years old," said Ambassador Kirby.

The Ambassador said that an investor from the United States was interested in investing in South Serbia, but didn’t reveal who the investor was.

“I noticed that the highway (Corridor 10) hasn’t been completed. I have to mention that everything concerning investments is associated with the production and exports, and in that regard, the question relating to the quality of roads and whether they exist at all, not to mention the speed of trains, will be put”, said Ambassador Kirby.
