INDEPENDENT JOURNALISTS’ ASSOCIATION OF SERBIA (IJAS) DENOUNCES INSULTS HURLED AT EDITOR

28. November 2014.

Belgrade – The IJAS condemned the insulting behavior of Galip Beciri, the former President of the Albanian National Council, to the editor of RTV Presevo Hasan Hasani.

The Independent Journalists’ Association of Serbia called on the Albanian National Council to publicly distance itself from the insults that Mr. Beciri had hurled at Mr. Hasani, thereby demonstrating that it guaranteed freedom of the press and equal working conditions to all journalists.

The IJAS said in a statement that Mr. Hasani had informed his journalistic association (IJAS) of the ugly incident that had taken place at the office of the Albanian National Council in Bujanovac the day before, during the handover of duty between the old and the new president of that body.

Galip Beciri loudly uttered a series of insults against the editor of RTV Presevo Mr. Hasani, so that they were clearly heard by the journalists, who were standing outside the office and waiting for the press conference.

A bit later, when asked to explain why he had insulted the editor of RTV Presevo, Mr.Beciri first denied that he had hurled the insults, and then, after being warned that his insults had been recorded by the journalists, asked them “Are you spies?”

The journalists replied they were just doing their job responsibly, it was said in a statement issued by the IJAS.
