GOOD RESPONSE OF CITIZENS TO LEGALIZATION OF WEAPONS

22. April 2015.

Vranje, Bujanovac, Presevo – “The response of citizens to the activity for legalizing weapons in Pcinj district is satisfactory“, said Zizan Ilic, the weapons inspector at the Police Department in Vranje.

“We are halfway through the activity and I'm fairly satisfied with it. We‘ll see what its results  will be in the end. We also organize promotions”, said Mr.Ilic.

The promotion of legalization of weapons in Vranje will last for three days, while a stand where the citizens will be able to get informed about the ways of legalizing their weapons has been put up in the pedestrian zone in Vranje. Similar stands will be set up in Bujanovac on Tuesday and in Presevo on Wednesday.

“I think that the activity will be successful there, too, because many requests for registration of firearms have already been submitted to us. Citizens can bring their illegal weapons to the police stations in the places of their residence, which will issue weapons permits or certificates of surrendered firearms to them and that is how the procedure is completed”, Mr. Ilic said.

Mr. Ilic said that the legalization of weapons was done in accordance with the new Law on Weapons and Ammunition, which was adopted on March 4, 2015, and that the activities for legalization of weapons in Serbia were organized in 2003 and 2007, too.

Information on the legalization of weapons is provided to the citizens by the Ministry of Internal Affairs, in cooperation with the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) and the Centre for Small Arms Control of Southeastern Europe and the European Union.
