FUNDS FOR FURTHER OPERATION OF THE SOUP KITCHEN PROVIDED

16. April 2019.

Bujanovac –  8.5 million dinars have neem provided from the republican fund for the operation of the Bujanovac soup kitchen in the upcoming nine months.

"Since of the 77 local self-governments in the country where soup kitchens are operational, the Bujanovac local self-government is the only one in Serbia that has been refusing to finance the operation of the soup kitchen and meals for the socially most vulnerable population for years, the funds for it were provided by the Ministry of Labor," said Bratislav Lazarevic, the Secretary of the Red Cross Branch Office in Bujanovac.

The Bujanovac soup kitchen is the second in Serbia by the number of its beneficiaries – 1,200 of them, while the next cycle of its operation, according to Mr. Lazarevic, should start in early July.

The majority of beneficiaries are from the Roma community - 78 percent of them, followed by Albanians with 12 percent, while Serbs account for around 10 percent.

The list of beneficiaries of the soup kitchen is set by the commission comprised of representatives of the Center for Social Work, the local self-government, the Red Cross and the Associations of Pensioners and Disabled Persons.
