FROM SEPTEMBER, CLASSES HELD BOTH AT SCHOOL AND AT HOME

28. July 2020.

Presevo, Bujanovac, Medvedja - Minister of Education Mladen Sarcevic says that intensive work is being done on developing various models of teaching from the fall and that older students and secondary school students will probably have two weeks of classes at school, followed by two weeks of home classes, while primary school students from first to fourth grade will go to school all the time or will have classes at school for three weeks, followed by one week of distance learning.

All schools do not have the same capacity, so that the same model cannot be applied in all of them. Younger children cannot stay at home alone, so we are trying to enable them to spend as many classes as possible at school ", says Minister Sarcevic.

According to him, in some schools it will be possible to organize classes so that students are at school all the time, while respecting safety measures and restrictions for one student to take up four square meters, and in other schools, which primarily have many students and work in two shifts, students from first to fourth grade will go to school for three weeks, and then follow classes from home for a week.

Minister Sarcevic adds that students from fifth to eighth grade can combine two weeks of online classes and two weeks of classes at school.

The Minister also states that the number of students and subject-based classrooms in each school is being analyzed and that the formulas according to which they will work are being made. At the same time, as he says, the number of parents is being analyzed, who will be able to organize themselves so that at least one of them stays at home in the event that there is no state of emergency.

"Some schools, which have more classrooms, subject-based classrooms for extended stays, as well as other suitable rooms, will be able to arrange school desks in the new space and set them up into groups. They will operate  in accordance with one of the better models, while different models will be applied in some other schools," Minister Sarcevic says.

He also says that there should be no problems for senior classes and secondary school students.

“Secondary school students could go to school in groups, in turns, for two weeks. During the first 15 days, for instance, first and second grade, then third and fourth. They would have lectures during the distance learning part, and exercises and assessment of their knowledge when they are at school”, Minister Sarcevic said.

He adds that in the next seven to ten days, when everything is analyzed, school principals will receive models and instructions on how to plan classes in terms of the ratio of classes dedicated to learning new material and classes dedicated to repeating that material.

“We will divide schools into several groups and each school will receive instructions and know its formula or what its model is and how to apply it ", Minister Sarcevic says.

Minister Sarcevic also says that children will have to wear masks at school if it is recommended by medical professionals.

“Children will have to wear masks if that is recommended.  We will all have to wear them. They are also worn in other countries of the world, so why not here as well ", Minister Sarcevic says.

He also points out that the classic type of school, which was valid until the coronavirus epidemic, will be possible only when it becomes completely safe, and that will most likely happen, as he says, only when we get the vaccine.
