30. March 2012.

Bujanovac – The major topics discussed at yesterday’s forum, which was organized in Bujanovac by the Center for Democracy, included the economic situation in and the prospects of South Serbia.

„Unemployment, low salaries and the fact that a half out of 40 underdeveloped municipalities are in South Serbia are the main reasons why the USAID Mission to Serbia is dedicated to the funding and launching of a great number of projects related to the economic development of this part of the country“, said Director of the USAID Mission to Serbia.  She underscored that Vranje was the regional leader in terms of economy, and added that successful companies, such as the „Tobacco Industry of Bujanovac“, Lagado“and „Buducnost“, existed in less developed municipalities, such as Bujanovac, Presevo and Medvedja.

Speakers at the said forum included Susan Fritz, Director of the USAID Mission to Serbia, Christoph Eichen, Head of the German Embassy’s Office for Economic Cooperation, and Sali Aliu, Manager of the „Toblet Skele“ company in the village of Rajince, which is situated near Presevo.
