ENTREPRENEURSHIP AND SELF-EMPLOYMENT

24. April 2018.

If you want to work as a freelancer, establish your own company, a start-up company or an agency, you have an entrepreneurial and proactive spirit, as well as the initiative. It also means that you have a good idea that you wish to put into practice.

Being self-employed can have both advantages and disadvantages. Some of the advantages of this type of employment are: the ability to set up your working hours, independence and freedom to try out new ideas and increased job satisfaction. When you are your own boss, you are the one who decides on the overall job development strategy, when you will have your vacation, when you will be able to stay away from work due to illness or other reasons.

On the other hand, there are some less compelling facts related to self-employment. Some of them are as follows: risk-taking and responsibility for your own business and earnings and lack of security and certainty when it comes to earnings. It is likely that you will initially have to work without any income as you build and develop your business. It is possible that you will have a lack of free time in the first phase, since you will have to do all the jobs yourself.

What do you need to know if you decide to take this step?

Legal and financial issues and regulations – The documentation required for registering a company, an agency, or a start-up company at the Business Registers Agency, the documentation required for opening a bank account, the payment of taxes, contributions, health and social insurance, bookkeeping, etc.

Market research - Collecting information on the existing similar businesses, agencies, services or products offered, potential competitors and what they offer/how they work?

The capital that is necessary to invest - Entrepreneurs and businessmen say that there is no profit without investments. If you do not have the capital to invest, there are loans for start-up companies, funds that allocate the money for starting your own business, loans extended to entrepreneurs and the like.

Business Plan – A business plan is important for any company, regardless of whether it is small, medium-sized or large. A business plan is a plan of the vision of the company, the way from your desires to reality. Your goals are set in it. Also, your basic weaknesses are analyzed in it, as well as the most important benefits of the planned activities and the basic strategy of its implementation is determined accordingly. Standard elements of the business plan are: the objective, the company’s profile, the assessment of market position, the marketing plan, the development plan and the financial plan.

Business incubators, training programs to develop your own business, which are provided by  chambers of commerce, and the funds that extend loans to entrepreneurs are important resources in supporting and encouraging young people who opt for this move.
