COORDINATION BODY MARKS 14 YEARS SINCE ITS ESTABLISHMENT

The Coordination Body for the Municipalities of Presevo, Bujanovac and Medvedja was established at a joint meeting of the Government of the FR (Federal Republic) of Yugoslavia and the Provisional Government of Serbia, which was held in Bujanovac on December 16, 2000.

Nebojsa Covic, the then Co-Premier of the Government of Serbia, was elected the first President of the Coordination Body and he held that position until mid-2005. The current President of the Coordination Body for the Municipalities of Presevo, Bujanovac and Medvedja is Zoran Stankovic, who took up the position on November 2, 2012.  

Over the past 14 years, around 6.5 billion dinars, from the budget of the Republic of Serbia, have been invested, through the Coordination Body, in the building of peace, security, tolerance and better lifestyle in South Serbia, particularly in the municipalities of Presevo, Bujanovac and Medvedja.  Also, numerous donors and international organizations have been working in the region for the past fourteen years and they have invested considerable resources in the three municipalities.  

The Coordination Body works in all areas and is engaged in a great deal of projects.  Some of the projects that the Coordination Body successfully implemented include the awarding of scholarships to secondary school and university students from the three municipalities, the awarding of grants to small and medium-sized enterprises, the organization of the Serbian language school for young Albanians from the municipalities of Presevo and Bujanovac, the opening of the Subotica  Faculty of Economics’ Department in Bujanovac and providing funds for the construction of the Department’s  building, as well as the opening of Nis University’s Faculties of Economics and Law  Departments in Medvedja, the construction of an outpatient maternity ward in Presevo, the payment of damages caused by floods in all three municipalities etc.

The Coordination Body for the Municipalities of Presevo, Bujanovac and Medvedja will continue to actively implement the policy of the Government of the Republic of Serbia, fully in accordance with the Constitution and laws, while taking into account the international conventions.  The Coordination Body is committed to talking through and resolving all issues with the competent governmental institutions, thereby expressing its intention to deal with this part of Serbia in a way that will improve the living and working conditions of the local population.
