COOPERATION BETWEEN THE COORDINATION BODY AND THE YOUTH FORUM FOR THE EDUCATION OF ROMA (OFER)

3. November 2009.

The “Youth Forum for the Education of Roma” (OFER) NGO gave joy to Bujanovac children by presenting them with valuable gifts.  The total of 142 children from vulnerable and socially jeopardized groups received sets of textbooks, which has made it possible for them to be educated under the same conditions as other children of their age.

In the period from October 10 to 13, 2009, representatives of the “OFER” organization, along with teachers of Bujanovac elementary schools, awarded textbooks to children from the Roma community, displaced persons, refugees and beneficiaries of the Social and Welfare Center. 46 sets of textbooks were distributed to the second grade students, 27 to the third grade students, 33 to the fourth grade students, eight to the fifth grade students, 10 to the sixth grade students and 18 to the seventh grade students.

The cheerful atmosphere, the students’ smiles and the promise to study hard from the received books marked the textbook distribution event.

In an open competition for funding the projects that are part of the program for distribution and usage of the funds for programs of exercising and improving social and minority rights and special qualities in the territory of the municipalities of Presevo, Bujanovac and Medvedja in 2009,  the Coordination Body of the Government of the Republic of Serbia approved to the “OFER” NGO the funds amounting to 500,000 dinars for the project “Free Textbooks for Children from Vulnerable and Socially Jeopardized Groups.”
