CLUSTER BOMBS REMOVED FROM PRESEVO

21. May 2012.

All unexploded cluster bombs left over from the NATO intervention in Serbia in 1999 were removed from the municipality of Presevo, said Emil Jeremic, Director of the Norwegian People's Aid NGO.

Mr. Jeremic said that 87 unexploded cluster bombs and other ordnance, which were found on seven locations over the past year, were destroyed.
The Norwegian People's Aid conducted a demining activity in the municipality of Presevo, while on May 10, a team of deminers continued the demining activity in the municipality of Kursumlija, and will later on do the same in the municipality of Bujanovac, Mr. Jeremic said. He pointed out that the removal of cluster bombs from South Serbia was financed by the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs with two and a half million euros.

“All locations with cluster bombs in the municipality of Presevo were cleaned. Some cluster bombs were  found on agricultural land, which is occasionally farmed, as well as in the vicinity of settlements, "added Mr. Jeremic. He noted that one cluster bomb was found on a country road near the village Buštranje, over which the residents go both on foot and by tractors.
