CITIZENS OF MEDVEDJA DEMAND THAT PENSIONERS BE "EXCLUDED" FROM PAYING MUNICIPAL FUNCTIONS

29. January 2018.

Medvedja - Over a hundred male and female citizens of the municipality of Medvedja from the Serbian, Albanian and Roma communities signed an appeal that was circulating round the town, in which Mayor Nebojsa Arsic was requested that his closest associates, pensioners, who are in salaried positions, should be "replaced".

“We, the undersigned citizens, can no longer watch how this municipality, where we were born and where we live, disappears. Our children, youth and citizens are forced to leave this environment because they can no longer leave from their work here, since there is no more work for anyone here,” it was said in the appeal.

“People who need to develop the municipality are mostly the pensioners who have resolved their children’s material problems and housing issues outside Medvedja. Your closest associates have no motive for any kind of work, because they are through with working and all of them have very high pensions. Their places have to be taken by educated people and those who have the motivation and knowledge to fight for this community, regardless of their nationality, "it was also said in the appeal.

The signatories of the appeal asked mayor Arsic to "urgently replace all the pensioners by the people who will devote their entire work time to the municipality and to providing the conditions for the stay of all those who want to live and work in the municipality," adding that "the appeal has no political background."

“If you ignore this petition, we will be forced to radicalize our protest against such pensioner officials. We will notify the public about our request and we will seek attendance at the Municipal Assembly’s session, so that the citizens of Medvedja could get an insight into the making of crucial decisions for our future, "it was said in the appeal, while Mayor Arsic was reminded that "there have been no new working places for two and a half years, nor has anything been done regarding the opening of a manufacturing plant in this underdeveloped municipality."

Mayor Arsic is also "asked" to take the appeal "most seriously".
