CHALLENGE "TO SMARTER CITIES WITH THE ASSISTANCE OF OPEN DATA" (DEADLINE: DECEMBER 8, 2019)

28. November 2019.

There is more and more talk of "smart cities" that make life easier for their residents owing to technology. Data play a major role in creating smart cities, which is the basis for planning and creating new services or innovating old ones. They are also "input material" in the decision-making process.  When looking for an answer on how to improve public transport and citizen awareness, reduce traffic congestion and the like, data can show how traffic is currently operating and where a problem is caused, which can be noticed by a more detailed analysis and cross-referencing the data.

In order to stimulate the development of open data-based solutions, the Office for Information Technology and e-Government, in partnership with the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), issued a Public Call in the form of challenges to propose innovative ideas that are based on the data  available to the local self-governments and on the Open Data Portal (www.data.gov.rs).

All interested parties, especially start-ups, associations, as well as small and medium-sized enterprises, are invited to apply and offer innovative solutions to various local problems, so that decisions could be made on the basis of data and information, and Serbian citizens could have the opportunity to use innovative services.  Innovation in access, combining the existing open data with the data collected from users, creating or opening new databases, creating functionality for a specific target group (such as citizens, teachers, the media), etc., is particularly encouraged.

Applicants need to define a local problem that can be analyzed or solved with open data. The problem that is being addressed through the challenge should be recognized by the local community and present in public.

The challenge winner will be awarded a maximum of 8,000.00 US dollars for developing his/her solution.

Further information on the call and the application form are available on  http://www.undp.org.rs/download/tmp/Izazov%20Otvorenih%20Podataka_19.pdf

The deadline for submitting ideas is December 8, 2019.
