CENNSUS RECORDS OBTAINED FROM SIX MILLION INHABITANTS IN EIGHT DAYS

Census records were obtained from around six milion citizens in eight days, said Ljiljana Djordjevic, Head of the Census Department at the Republican Statistics Office. According to her, the census has gotten into a routine and it is being conducted without any problems in the entire territory of  Serbia. 

According to the figures obtained by the census commissions, Albanians from South Serbia mostly remained consistent with a decision to boycott the census, which had been reached by the assembly of councilors from the municipalities of Presevo, Bujanovac and Medvedja. Therefore, until Saturday, census records were taken from only a few Albanians in Bujanovac, whereas the data on only 70 citizens with the Albanian ethnic background were recorded in Presevo. 

Boban Pavlovic, the head of the census commission in Bujanovac, said that records from a total of 13,866 and 5,151 households were taken in that municipality. Dragoljub Filipovic, his peer in Presevo, where over 90 per cent of the population are members of the Albanian community, said that census records were taken from 1,200 citizens and 505 flats in that municipality. Mr. Filipovic also said that only seven out of 23 census takers with the Albanian ethnic background  participated in the taking of the census.
