CALL FOR THE NATIONAL AWARD FOR PROPER REPORTING ON POVERTY AND SOCIAL EXCLUSION (DEADLINE: FEBRUARY 28,2019)

15. January 2019.

The European Network Against Poverty - Serbia issues a call for journalistic works/media coverage to compete for the National Award for Proper Reporting on Poverty and Social Exclusion.

The goal of the Award for Proper Reporting is the promotion of proper and non-sensational reporting on poverty, which presents various aspects and forms of poverty, respectfully presents  people living in poverty, and deals with a deeper consideration of the phenomenon of poverty and its causes.

The Award for Proper Reporting is given for journalistic works/ media coverage dealing with the topic of poverty and social exclusion in Serbia, published in print, electronic or online media of national, regional and local importance.

This award represents an atypical one, given that the jury that will evaluate the journalistic works/ media coverage is composed exclusively of persons with experience of poverty and social exclusion (unemployed young people, persons with disabilities, male and female members of national minorities, male and female users of social services etc).

The most important criterion that the jury will be led by in their evaluations is how the journalist reporting on poverty and social exclusion deals with the topic through pictures, texts and words in a proper manner and thus tries to talk about the topic in a non-sensational and non-stereotypical way.

The call runs until February 28, 2019.

Works that will be considered are those published from February 1, 2018 to January 31, 2019, or until the end of the competition or February 28, 2019.

The award will be given in March/April 2019.

More information can be obtained by phone numbers: 060 70 54 893 - Dobrila Markovic or 064 144 34 35 - Jasmina Krunić.

The EAPN Serbia National Award aims to influence the improvement of the quality of media monitoring of the phenomenon of poverty and social exclusion in Serbia, raising the general public's awareness of the life of persons with a poverty experience, and rewarding and motivating journalists who, through their work, report on poverty in a decent manner.

The call for the National Award for Proper Reporting is realized by the European Network Against Poverty - Serbia within the project "Journalism-Prize Goes International", with the support of the ERSTE Foundation.
