BUJANOVAC AND PRESEVO ON THE LIST OF 5 PLACES WITH THE HIGHEST BIRTH RATE AND THE LOWEST DEATH RATE

6. July 2020.

Bujanovac, Presevo - According to data of the Statistical Office, Bujanovac and Presevo are at the top of the list of the places with the lowest death rate in Serbia, and are also on the list of 5 places with the highest birth rate in Serbia.

Bujanovac and Presevo are among 7 local communities in the country with a positive natural increase in population.

In 2019, 452 inhabitants were born in Bujanovac, while 373 of them died, and even better statistics are in Presevo, where there are almost twice as many births as deaths - 224 deaths and 417 births.

According to the South Serbia News, these two municipalities are not an exception only in South Serbia.

Among 5 places with the highest death rate in Serbia in 2019, more than half of them were from the southern part of the country, and those places included Crna Trava, Babusnica and Gadzin Han.

In 2019, only 4 babies were born in Crna Trava, and 42 people died.

The negative trend of a decrease in the number of inhabitants in Serbia continued last year, too, and the "bleak" statistics are especially pronounced in the southern part of the country.

“Unfavorable tendencies in the natural movement of the population, and especially in regional differences, can be more fully understood at the level of cities and municipalities. Out of the total number of places, there are only 7 with positive birth rates ", the Institute said.

As for larger cities in the southern part of Serbia, in Nis, as the largest city, 2,514 babies were born last year, while 3,485 people died, which is similar to the statistics for 2018.

In 2019, 1,061 babies were born in Leskovac, while 2,077 inhabitants died, while the situation was better in Vranje, which had 756 births, compared to 1,014 deaths.

The estimated number of population in Serbia, without Kosovo and Metohija, in 2019 was 6,945,235.
