ATTEMPT TO ELECT A NEW MAYOR OF MEDVEDJA FAILED

13. January 2015.

The first attempt to elect a new mayor of Medvedja failed yesterday.

A session of the local assembly was interrupted after a heated discussion during which the councilmen of the opposition Serbian Progressive Party opposed the attempt to abolish the results of voting.

The only candidate for the new Mayor was Natasa Filic, the former President of the Municipal Assembly of Medvedja ,  from the group of citizens “Gornja Jablanica” of the suddenly deceased and longtime Mayor of Medvedja Slobodan Draskovic.

Mutual threats were heard, while abusive language was used in connection with Mrs. Filic.

She received the support of 17 councilors in a secret ballot, while 18 councilors were against her election for the mayor of Medvedja.

Previously, also in a secret ballot, Goran Ivanovic from the “Gornja Jablanica” group of citizens was elected the new Head of the Local Parliament.
