AS OF SEPTEMBER, A NEW OPTIONAL SUBJECT ON CHILDREN'S SAFETY IN PRIMARY SCHOOLS

Presevo, Bujanovac, Medvedja - Nebojsa Stefanovic, the Serbian Deputy Prime Minister and Interior Minister, signed with Mladen Sarcevic, the Education Minister, Protocol on Cooperation on the program "The Fundamentals of Children's Safety," thanks to which a new optional subject would be introduced in primary schools this September.  

As of the next school year, students of the fourth and sixth grades will have a subject dealing  with the safety of children, the primary goal of which is prevention. Students will, once per month, have lectures on various topics of traffic safety, the harmful effects of drugs and alcohol and on the dangers lurking on the Internet and social networks. The topics of discussion with children of the fourth and sixth grades will also include violence as a negative social phenomenon, prevention and protection of children from trafficking and what is needed to be done to protect oneself from fires and natural disasters.

Minister Stefanovic pointed out that kids should also get better acquainted with the basics of traffic safety. He said that a large number of lecturers, who would be coming to schools, would take part in the Ministry of Interior’s program

Education Minister Mladen Sarcevic said that he was very pleased that the two ministries continued the good cooperation which had started in September, when he and Minister Stefanovic visited schools and tried to have as many as possible security measures developed.

He also said that it was necessary to address bullying and pointed out that the Ministry of Education, in cooperation with the centers for social work and school police officers, would try to build up school teams.
