AMBASSADOR MANZO: SERBIA’S BEHAVIOR RESPONSIBLE AND SOLIDARY

24. September 2015.

Presevo – “Serbia deals with the refugee crisis responsibly and with solidarity ", said yesterday Giuseppe Manzo, the Italian Ambassador to Serbia, during his visit to the Reception Centre for Refugees in Presevo.

”There are many established European values in providing assistance and care, which thousands of desperate people in transit receive in this remote region of South Serbia, and we encourage Belgrade to continue going down this path, against the logic of the walls, "said Ambassador Manzo.

“From the very beginning of the migrant crisis, Italy has been of the view that it can’t be solved as a problem of only one country, but by means of a joint approach at the European level", the Ambassador said during his conversation with volunteers of the Red Cross of Serbia, to which the Italian Cooperation had donated 100,000 euros for the purchase of basic goods.

In a statement issued by the Italian Embassy in Belgrade, it was said that Ambassador Manzo had meetings with Nagip Arifi, the Mayor of Bujanovac, Skender Destani, the Deputy Mayor of Presevo, as well as with MPs in the Serbian Parliament Nenad Mitrovic from the Serbian Progressive Party and Saip Kamberi from the Party for Democratic Action.

As a member of the "Friends of South Serbia" group, which includes embassies and international organizations present in Belgrade, Ambassador Manzo told the political representatives of South Serbia that the dialogue between the local authorities and the central government should be resumed as soon as possible.
