ALMOST 24,000 FEWER INHABITANTS IN THE JABLANICA DISTRICT IN NINE YEARS, MEDVEDJA HAS BEEN HALVED

Leskovac, Medvedja - According to comparative data for 2011 and 2019, the population of the Jablanica district decreased by 23,752 people. The most drastic situation is in Medvedja, where the number of inhabitants has been halved over the previous 8 years, while Leskovac has the smallest decline of 8.29 percent.

According to the 2011 census, there were 224,776 inhabitants in six local self-governments of the Jablanica district, and at the end of last year, there were 201,024 inhabitants, which is 23,752 fewer inhabitants or 11.82 percent less people. Depopulation is also recorded both in the city of Leskovac and in other municipalities.

The largest depopulation is in Medvedja, where 10,295 people lived eight years ago, while today there are officially 6,590 people, which is 4,705 fewer or 45.70 percent less people, according to the Republican Statistics Office.

The smallest decrease in the number of inhabitants is registered in Leskovac, 12,368, or 8.29 percent. 147,959 people lived in the administrative center of the Jablanica district in 2011, and 135,591 at the end of 2019.

After Medvedja, the largest decline in population, due to negative natural growth and migration, was recorded in Lebane with 12.91 percent and in Bojnik with 12.43 percent. In Lebane, the population dropped by 2,925 people, and in Bojnik by 1,445 people.

Over the past eight years, Vlasotince lost 9.76 percent of the population, because there were 30,695 inhabitants in this town in 2011, and 27,718 in 2019.

According to the data of the Republican Statistics Office, the population of the Crna Trava municipality dropped by 21.41 percent over the past eight years, from 1,551 to 1,219, which is 332 fewer people.
