A TRUCK WITH 14 MIGRANTS DISCOVERED AT THE PRESEVO BORDER CROSSING

29. July 2020.

Presevo  - At the Presevo border crossing, the customs officers, together with the police, prevented 14 migrants from illegal border crossing, who were in a truck with Hungarian license plates that was transporting artificial fertilizer from Greece to Belgrade.

It was said in a statement issued by the Customs Administration that the driver of the truck, a Serbian-Hungarian citizen, said at the border that he had nothing to declare except the reported goods, but that it seemed to him that he heard noise and voices in the cargo area of the truck.

After that, the customs officers used a multi-gas detector to measure the increased concentration of carbon dioxide in the trailer, and although the Macedonian customs seal was undamaged, that was a sufficient reason for the truck to be opened and inspected in detail.

Eleven young men from Afghanistan were found among the bags of artificial fertilizers, while three more migrants were hiding in the pallet of the truck, from where the customs officers and the police barely pulled them out.

Since the beginning of the year, customs officers have discovered almost 650 migrants in cargoes with various goods.
