A TRIAL CENSUS IN APRIL

25. March 2019.

Bujanovac, Presevo –  The Statistical Office of the Republic of Serbia will conduct a trial census of the population, households and flats in April.

This activity is part of the preparation for the population census in 2021 and will not cover the entire population, but only about 20,000 households and about 50,000 persons in selected parts of some populated places in the city or municipality.

Unlike all previous censuses, in which data were collected by filling out paper questionnaires, two new methods of data collection will be tested in the 2019 trial census: self-census via the Internet and filling in electronic questionnaires by using a laptop.

Self-census is a method of collecting data in which citizens independently fill out electronic questionnaires for themselves and their household members. 13,000 citizens in the selected parts of settlements in the area of Belgrade, Nis and Novi Sad will have the opportunity to do self-census. This will be done in the period from 8 am on April 1 until midnight on April 7.

Field data collection using laptop computers is carried out by enumerators that visit the territory they are in charge of and that enter the citizens’ answers into the electronic questionnaires in the laptop.

Among the selected cities and municipalities in South Serbia are Leskovac and the villages of Zaluznje and Priboj, which are located in its territory. The trial list also includes the village of Oslare in the municipality of Bujanovac, Vranje and Zlatokop, the Nis municipalities of Pantelej, Donja Vrezina and the Red Cross, as well as the municipality of Presevo.
