53 ILLEGAL MIGRANTS DISCOVERED, SMUGGLERS ARRESTED

Nis - Members of the Interior Ministry in Nis found 53 foreign nationals, who had illegally entered the territory of Serbia, and arrested two people on suspicion of smuggling in human beings, the Interior Ministry said.  

It was said in the statement that S.K (33), who is from the area of Srbobran, and Z.M (19), who is from the area of Presevo, were arrested.  

During the night, near the Doljevac toll gate, members of the police found 16 citizens of Syria and one citizen of Pakistan in a vehicle with Novi Sad registration plates, which was being driven by S. K, as well as 17 Afghan nationals and one citizen of Syria in another vehicle with Leskovac registration plates, which were suspected to be counterfeit.  

The latter vehicle was driven Z. M, while a minor was sitting in the co-driver’s seat.  

According to the statement, the suspects broke through the toll gate and tried to escape, but the police stopped them. 

Also, in a vehicle with Belgrade registration plates, eight Afghan nationals, eight citizens of Syria and two citizens of India were found, while the driver of that vehicle was looked for.

The suspects shall be held in custody up to 48 hours after which, along with the criminal complaint, they shall be led to the competent prosecutor's office in Nis. 
A worker of the Center for Social Work escorted the juvenile to the receiving station of the Institute for Youth Education in Nis, after which criminal charges shall be filed against him due to the suspicion of his unauthorized crossing of the state border and smuggling in human beings, it was said in the statement.
